Typescript of The Yakimas, 1855-1955 (index: part 2).

Abstract

"The wise old chiefs, with the power of gifted leaders, realized that future life must change when the unwanted treaty was thrust upon them. It was ratified by the Senate, the president proclaimed it and it became the law. Grandfathers cling to the old ways, and the young people struggling to learn the new, held it in solemn and high respect. The written history of all tribes commenced with the arrival of the Europeans."
