dc.description.abstract"During the past year these people have been well behaved and peaceable and more of them have evinced a disposition to go to work. This I attribute in a great measure to the difficulties now experienced by them in obtaining spirituous liquors. The large number of persons whom I have caused to be arrested and punished for selling liquor to Indians has had a most beneficial effect and has almost put an entire stop to the vile traffic; and it is now extremely rare to see a drunken Indian; in fact I do not think I have seen one on the reservation in the last twelve months."en_US
