Although feeling a lot of pain from gall stones, Relander responds to a letter from Mrs. C. L. Hagler about Mother Pearl's operation. He lets her know that Pearce stopped by the Relander's and had a visit, but didn't know Mother Pearl's current condition. Relander also lets her know about his own condition and the fact that he most likely will need surgery, but he can come down to California afterward.en_US
