dc.description.abstract"The government contends that the Wanapums were and are non-treaty people. This is true. The Wanapums never fought with the government so hence, no treaty. The government, however, is apparently not aware of the fact that the Wanapums did not recognize the Yakima War chief, Kamiakin, as their leader or representative at the Treaty of Walla Walla, June 9, 1855, when Kamiakin claimed land that was not his and the government, without investigating, accepted that claim."en_US
