"'...We are tormented every day by the white people who desire to settle on our lands and although we have built houses and opened gardens they wish, in spite of us, to take possession of the very spots we occupy. 'Now we wish to know whether this is the law of the white man or the Indian. If it is our land the white man must not trouble us. If it is the land of the white man, when did they but it?'"
