Abstract
"Spokane fair goers were rocked back on their heels by a display of products Yakima was famous for, watermelons. There was a double row of them, 120 in all and A. B. Ross in charge of the display weighed in one of the melons at 67 pounds. Ross told onlookers that corn grew so high at Yakima stepladders were required to pick it. He showed, as proof, cornstalks 19 feet high. Then he pointed out a radish weighing 26 pounds."
