Abstract

"Fort Simcoe, an Indian Wars era fort is located about 35 miles from Yakima. It was built in 1856 by Major Robert Selden Garnett and other Virginians were stationed there. After months of negotiation, the State Parks Commission, the Yakima Indian Tribal Council and Department of Interior are getting together on an agreement that will provide for the restoration of the fort. In Washington a percentage of all driving license fees and all traffic fines goes into a fund for restoration and preservation of historical sites."
