Abstract
"'The use of wrought iron instead of wood, as material for guncarriages has engaged the attention of the Ordinance department. The operations at the national armories have been restricted to the completion of new models for small arms; the alteration of old models to long range rifled guns, and to the preparations requisite for the exclusive manufacture of the adopted new model, of which many parts have been fabricated."
