Item "...'The 9th Infantry is scheduled for Gyroscope to Alaska in July 1956 and consequently will not be physically present to take part in the ceremony...."(UNPUBLISHED, 1956-01-22) Relander, ClickAfter receiving a response back from the 9th Infantry at Fort Lewis, Relander lets George M. Martin, secretary for the Fort Simcoe at Mool Mool Restoration Society, know that they are going to be gone to Alaska, but a recommendation has been made to make an officer to the 9th available to represent them.Item "...The 9th Infantry will be in Alaska for maneuvers and if represented, will be by token representation only."(UNPUBLISHED, 1956-01-23) Relander, ClickRelander updates Albert Culverwell, with the State Parks and Recreation Commission, on how plans are proceeding for a Fort Simcoe centennial celebration, before asking for cost estimates for buildings like are used on state parks, but made for living in.Item "And it suddenly dawned upon me, the Shakers. Barnett, with the Department of Anthropology for the University of Oregon about photos and the Shakers. Had I known you were interested, I would have sent you clippings at the time. I am enclosing a little follow through that should be of interest to Chief Tommy and his good wife; a few hurried notes taken close to one of our deadlines because Mrs. Whiz had to leave."Item "[Bruce Le Roy mentioned something about an old drawing of Fort Simcoe, you suspected it was Simcoe, you had."(UNPUBLISHED, 1964-05-06) Relander, ClickRelander is writing Howard Burnham to see if he has a drawing of Fort Simcoe, and if so, whether he would be willing to trade. Carpenter, to attend the centennial of Fort Simcoe. The Yakimas will also be in attendance. Relander requests their participation, and an officer designated to be kept informed of plans.Item "Ginny will take over telephone chore to contact college history teachers, Homer Splawn...etc. if the Wednesday night meeting is expanded."(UNPUBLISHED, 1964-04-06) Relander, ClickRelander sends plans for Bruce Leroy's, director of the Washington State Historical Society, visit to Yakima, to him. He offers his house to stay in and details the plans for several meetings.Item "...He is having the library compile a bilography of material pertaining to Fort Simcoe on file there."(UNPUBLISHED, 1953-02-10) Relander, Click"Yes, someone should interview Judge Kuykendall, thoroughly, before it is too late, and that will be something that some member of the committee can perhaps take on while on vacation through that area. Relander also invites Dr. Gannon to an event so the two parties can meet, even if a trip out to the museum isn't possible.Item "I am confident when you examine these books you will find them as represented...."(UNPUBLISHED, 1956-08-14) Relander, ClickRelander is sending three packages to Glen Dawson of Dawson's Book Shop. Vincent forwarded on to the state historian with the State Parks and Recreation Commission. Relander also encloses a circular for Drummers and Dreamers, which he states deals with Fort Simcoe considerably, and gives him publication information.Item "...I am pleased to add my small voice, and humbly."(UNPUBLISHED, 1956-01-22) Relander, ClickRelander adds his thoughts on publications, after receiving a memorandum from J. M. McClelland Jr., chairman of the publication committee for the Washington State Historical Society, recipient. He brings up the experience he's gained through the publication of Drummers and Dreamers.Item "...I am sure you are interested in participating more than as an 'onlooker'...."(UNPUBLISHED, 1953-01-22) Relander, Click"I suggest that the probable first major activity of the committee would be a meeting (start early and stay late) at Fort Simcoe when weather permits. We would rally the Olneys, various old Indians and other 'source' material there for on the ground interviews, inspections etc. When a committee of sufficient size is truly active and interested people has been selected, we would meet and through a type of screening or brief discussion, determine the special talents of various members."Item "I believe of value to the committee would be an Indian historian who could give us any legends pertaining to the area."(UNPUBLISHED, 1953-01-24) Relander, Click"It is the desire to expand this committee to each city in the valley.
