Abstract
"I would respectfully report that in consequence of the unexampled country in which the soldiers of my company have been serving against the hostile Indians they are unable to preserve their clothing or make it last any length of time. Travelling amongst constantly in swamps filled with water, fallen trees, heavy and thick bush or brush, the bootees and pants are work out and become in short time unfit for use."
