dc.description.abstract"In April 1847 five Oblates of Mary Immaculate joined Bishop Blanchet in St. Louis and from there began five month trek to Walla Walla. As a part of their unceasing efforts to expand their sphere...the fathers in the spring of 1852 opened a third mission in the Yakima Valley. It was located on the Ahtanum Creek and was dedicated to the Holy Cross under the style Saint-Croix d'Ahtanum. This mission later became St. Joseph's Mission and in order to avoid confusion will be referred to as such."en_US
