dc.description.abstract"Would Be a Mistake. If President Roosevelt takes the stump in the congressional campaign this fall, it will be establishing a new precedent, and one that is not likely to be approved by everybody. When presidents have sought re election it has not been uncommon for them at times to appear on the platform for two or three addresses, although it has generally been thought to be more in keeping with the dignity of the position for a president to keep out of the campaign, even when he himself is asking for another term of office. For a president to get out in an off year campaign is quite unusual, and it is doubtful any good would be accomplished either for the country or for the party to which the president belongs."en_US
