dc.description.abstract"...here (in Western Oregon) and particularly in the Willamette valley, cattle had been accumulating for some three decades (before the gold rushes of the Northwest), slowly at first but rapidly since the beginning of the 1840s. Some of these cattle were of Spanish origin and had come up from California. They were scrawny animals, remarkable not so much for the richness of their milk and the tenderness of their flesh as for their general toughness and their long horns."en_US
