dc.description.abstract"So - the picture of Kamiakin was given to Winans in 1864 (hence the date) by Mrs. R. R. Rees. Mrs. Rees was the wife of Winan's business partner. Mrs. Converse does not know how the picture came into Rees's hands. The name on the picture - 'Maxwell' - refers to a photographer who was operating in the area at the time, and Mrs. Converse thinks that the picture is actually a reproduction of a tintype."en_US
