dc.description.abstractHorse drawn wagon loaded with pipe. Yakima Bindery & Printing Co on upper level 17-19-21 N. 1st St. (1914 Polk Directory - J. E. Owens Pres, Floyd S. Smith Vice-Pres, W. F. Tuesley Sec-Treas) --- Redmon Steel Tube Co (Thomas J. Redmon), Sheet Metal Works 19 N 1st. 22 --- Thomas & Dora Read Redmon residence was 318 N 1st. Thos Jefferson Redmon came to Yakima in 1888, and was inventor and manufacturer of irrigation pipe used in the Yakima Valley. At one point T. Redmon taught school at Parker Bottom. ---- Son Fred Granville Redmon worked for his father, then eventually went into paving, owning five asphalt plants. Fred "Hardrock" Redmon designed the first portable rock crushing machine. --- In 1951, Fred Redmon was appointed Washington State Highway Commission, a bard member of the Washington State Toll Bridge Authority from 1953-54, Yakima County treasurer from 1956-64 and state senator from the 14th district from 1964-68. --- An act of Senate in 1969 named the I-82 Selah creek spans "Fred Redmon Memorial Bridge.".
