dc.description.abstract"Coeur d'Alene - This is an Idaho name for a lake and a city. It is mentioned here because in early days the river which drains the lake was called Coeur d'Alene River until joined by the Little Spokane River. The last name is now used from the lake throughout its length. The French term means 'awl-heart' or 'sharp-hearted.' Some claim the traders applied it to the shrewd Indians and others say the Indians applied it first to the grasping traders. Meany."en_US
