dc.description.abstractFull studio portrait of Chief Saponowox of the Yakima Tribe. Native American man standing on a floral carpet against a light backdrop. The subject is wearing a feathered headdress with inverted feathers covering the side of his head. He holds several large feathers in his right hand. A striped fabric is wrapped around his waist like a skirt, covering him from waist to ankle. Additional unidentified feather regalia is draped over his left shoulder and falls to the floor. "1901 SAPONOWOX A YAKIMA CHIEF" inscribed lower left corner of the photo. "Lee Moorhouse Pendleton, OR." is blind stamped in the lower right corner.
