dc.description.abstract"Walla Walla - Name for a city, county and river. Where several little rivers run or come together. Father Pandosy spelled it Walawala and pointed out it was actually wanawana, repetition of the word diminuitizing it. Early written Walla-walla, Wallawalla, Wollaw Wollah, Wallow Wallows, etc. North West Company built Fort Nez Perces near the mouth of the river in 1818 and it became Fort Walla Walla, at location of old Wallula which was unindated by McNary Dam and lake called Wallula."en_US
