dc.description.abstract"Lindsay, situated in the very center of the most extensively developed section of Tulare county's orange belt, lies about 13 miles north of Porterville and 18 miles Southeast of Visalia on the east side branch of the Southern Pacific railroad. Orange groves in solid formation and stretching miles in all directions approach to and extend from the city which once was a rolling prairie where hundreds of cattle grazed. After the railroad came into the valley, thousands of acres were sown to grain, and later, when deep-welled irrigation was a demonstrated success, the citrus industry, which is still the leading farm endeavor of the community, came into its own."en_US
