dc.description.abstract"North Yakima was the first town west of the Mississippi to have an auto fire wagon says Fire Chief Dawson. In fact three years ago when Rig No. 2 was purchased by the city, there were very few auto rigs in the entire country. Such vehicles were few and far between and were considered as experiments more than anything else. Rig No. 2 was something of a homemade affair. It was designed in North Yakima and the order for the parts were sent to St. Louis where the parts were made. The parts were then sent here and assembled. The machine proved to be a success from the start."en_US
