dc.description.abstract"A short distance north of this pass some of the first early settlers laid out a little village known as Yakima City. It has met with reverses but is still a pretty little town with broad shady streets, neat dwellings and grassy lawns. All the privileges and advantages of town life are found here. Three general merchandise stores supply the temporal wants of the people. The public school is an institution of pride and interest to the citizens. The corps of teachers is competent and thorough and the pupils intelligent and mannerly. Regular religious services are conducted by the Catholics and two Protestant denominations. A young people's society and a union Sabbath school have been maintained and enjoyed by all Protestants who freely unite in them and thus worship Him who has taught us to dwell together in love and unity. Contentment and kindly feelings are everywhere apparent."en_US
