| dc.description.abstract | "Father had over a thousand acres on the Columbia. Our ranch down the river was one of the round up place. Cattle were rounded up from Prosser to Patterson Father Switzler had 2,200 head of horses at one time besides cattle. The best horses were picked out and driven to Eastern markets. Koontz was another big stockman. He was up the Columbia not far from White Bluffs. One of the oldest cabins in Whitman was still standing on the east side of the river at White Bluffs not long ago.
