Abstract
"The disparity existing between the men and women, in numbers, arises partly from the loss they have sustained in former wars among themselves and the whites but more from their irregular habits and idle. The Women have been the burden bearers and have performed three fourths of the work in providing subsistence; this day of oppression of slavery is passing away and the men and women are mutually bearing the burdens that belong to them; in this we see the march of civilization."
