dc.description.abstract"When the NP tracks arrived at Yakima City and continued north to the site of present Yakima and North Yakima was founded, W.F.D. Mercer, special route agent of Wells, Fargo & Co. came here to transfer the office to North Yakima so Wells, Fargo could compete with the Northern Pacific Express, but it was a losing fight. Consignments could come faster by rail to Pasco Junction instead of by stage or freighter from The Dalles. However stage and freight service was maintained to Goldendale and The Dalles."en_US
