Abstract
"Three years before the founding of Yakima 75 perishable years ago, the first Labor Day celebration was held. The celebration, a parade at New York City was held at a time running back now beyond memory of all but a few of the living. Labor Day, however, did not become a national holiday until 1894 when a bill introduced by Sen. James H. Kyle of South Dakota, father of Mrs. J. H. Weber, 7 S. 18th Ave., Yakima, became law. And by that time labor was well established in Yakima and was growing with the town."
