Abstract
"A. G. Lloyd...as the first step in preparing a home in the new country purchased 400 head of stock....The claim to the land was based on squatter's right, a common enough procedure with one exception. The land was considered by the Palouse Indians as being their property and despite the fact that Col. George Wright had followed up the Steptoe disaster with a punitive campaign that completely broke the power of the Palouse, Spokane and Coeur d'Alene Indians, the issue could have been a touchy one."
