Abstract
"Franklin P. Olney writes: 'The Herald speaks of chief Kotiakin as the son of Kamiakin, is not true; he had no connection by blood to the old chief; he was a private individual, son of an Indian by the name of Kittitashla; also the second name of his father was Shanawai. He was not of the royal stripe, but was chosen on account of his being somewhat inspired by the great spirit. He was master of the Pum Pum dance society."
