Abstract

"Ezra Meeker, the Puyallup pioneer who has won national fame by his work in behalf of the preservation of the route of the old Oregon trail has returned home after an absence of three years. All this time while away was devoted to the Oregon trail project and his effort in its behalf led him into 10 states. Mr. Meeker reports that 31 monuments already have been erected along the route of the trail and that each section land crossing for 1,000 miles has been platted. This was the second long absence from the state and in all his journeyings he traveled with the prairie schooner and ox team now known all over the country. One of the oxen fell lame at Omaha city and he shipped the team and schooner by rail to Puyallup, he himself following them."
