Abstract

"The automobile fad seems to be almost as dangerous to the rich who ride in the new style carriages as to the poor who sometimes get in their way and are run down. The terrible death of Charles L. Fair, a California millionaire, and wife recently in France, ought to be a warning to the high-toned and wealthy gentlemen who insist upon traveling over public roads at the speed of railway trains, but it probably won't. Only three weeks ago three people were killed and others injured by a runaway auto in New York. If the new vehicle cannot be made safe it ought to be prohibited by law from using public thoroughfares."
