Reprinted from the New England Historical and Genealogical Register for April, 1866. "No martyr in the late struggle for union and nationality fell more widely or sincerely lamented than Gen. Nathaniel Lyon. His military career in Missouri opened brilliantly, and was accepted as a prophecy of signal usefulness and honor. Through his foresight, decision and activity St. Louis was saved from the hands of the enemy." Includes a portrait of General Lyon and a labeled map of the plan of the Battle of Wilson's Creek, MO.
