Her first Territorial Governor, Isaac I. Stevens, fell in battle as he lead his troops at Chantilly. Generals Grant, Pickett, McClellan, Sheridan, and others were all stationed at tone time or another in Washington Territory, some of them participating in the Indian Wars of the 1850's.
