Date est."The Yakima Reservation (spelled Yakama until the 1880s) was not ratified by the Senate until March 8, 1859 and was proclaimed by President James Buchanan until April 18, that year. In many instances, such as in California, Indians relinquished their lands but because treaties were not ratified, lost all protection against land settlement. Only in very recent years has some orders been made though claims acknowledged just by the government, and these of course only to proven forebears of the original people."No Known Copyright The organization that has made the Item available reasonably believes that the Item is not restricted by copyright or related rights, but a conclusive determination could not be made.
