| dc.description.abstract | "The first post office at Priest Rapids, Mitchell, was wired down to keep it from being blown flat by the high winds. Later I built a long house for mother there. It was more secure. The post office was located on the north side of the river, about one-half mile downstream from the ferry landing. Mother had a 120 acre homestead there. The lumber for the postoffice was hauled in frm a mill at Ft Simcoe. Then I rafted it across the river. The old log house was built about 1906-07. The last time I was over to Priest Rapids I see the wind has blown down the old postoffice. The old log house is still standing." | en_US |
