Abstract
"When the war time subsided it was realized that the Indians in the Spokane country had been as badly scared as the whites. The movement of troops, the concentration of the settlers and the propaganda of the disaffected Nez Perces perplexed them. The controlling influence proved to be Father Cataldo, who was not a prisoner but travelled the country for two months after the outbreak urging the Indians to remain quiet."
