Abstract
"Now that there's big talk about a long dam downstream across the broad Columbia and a longer dam upstream, Beverly is shaking the dust loose off its feet. T.R. Grove, a Beverly resident since 1925 and the town's postmaster since 1927 said that from all the stories floating around, some of the old day atmosphere, lacking only sever rip roaring saloons, will prevail again. Because half a century ago when Beverly was a youngster of a town and the Milwaukee Railroad bridge was thrown across the river, and in the days following when irrigation was attempts to secure a foredoomed foothold on the dry land, and irrigation workers."
