Abstract

"While most of us have a general feeling that they are fighting a losing battle against stopping construction on The Dalles Dam, not a single one that I know of but is whole-heartedly behind the belief and firm conviction that the Treaty promises should be upheld. Names on petitions of this kind, taken by the tribal delegates to the hearing at Washington will show our legislators that the Indians have sincere friends who wish their rights respected, and if nothing else, it will convince them that there can be no further evasion of the fact that if their rights are ignored, they should not be compelled to wait for untold years, as history has proven, for compensation."
