Abstract

"The Coyote series opens with Coyote travelling up [underlined] the river, and his first contacts were with a girl trying to kill Mountain Sheep. (out of the lower habitat), they deal with the buffalo country, with Owl Monster (who is not the pectogryph familiar believed the river monster or owl woman around Celilo but a timber owl who lived on the Imnaha River; pp. 198 an account of a fisherman who was 'accustomed to go up the Little Salmon (Hunehe) branch of the Grande Ronde River to fish for salmon and of dried fish (salmon) stored at Asotin Creek."
