Abstract

"Pend Oreille, a county in the northeastern corner of the state which was created by the legislature on March 1, 1911. A creek and lake bear the same name. The name originated with the French employes of the Northwest and Hudson's Bay company who gave it to Indians who had ornaments handing on pendants from the ears. A flippant translation in some journals was 'Ear Bobs.' (Meany)."
