Abstract
"I have the honor to report the arrival of Captain W. W. Winters 1st cavalry with the Snake prisoners and the Piutes, five hundred and forty three. Seeing they were on the road to the agency and having no instructions from the Department that it was the design to remove them here, I took my head chief, interpreter and one police man and went out 60 miles to meet them and then for the first time learning from the captain's papers the orders and destination of said Indians they arrived 30 miles below the station on the evening of the 2d."
