Abstract
"We were impelled to move: 'Wherever you turned you saw an 'ad' land in Washington. My father gathered up his family and 200 head of stock cattle and started for Grays harbor. We went through Pendleton and came to the ferry at Columbus. The wind was blowing so hard we were held three days there waiting. One cow jumped off the ferry but swam to the Washington side. We settled in the open country. We camped at the mouth of the Yakima river. Then we met a man my father had known in California, Charles Longmire. He persuaded father to come to the Wenas valley."
