Abstract

"Commissioner Evans estimates that the average age of the [Civil War] veterans who still survive is about 59 years. The last survivor of the war of 1812 died last summer, 75 years after the close of the war. At the same rate there will probably be a few survivors of the civil war still living in 1940."
