Abstract

"Back in the 90s the sight of a farmer becoming stuck with his team on Yakima avenue was not an uncommon one. George Grist of Broadway recalled when reminiscing last week. He was stuck himself at one time. Large pools of water were in the street and some wag put up a sign with the notation 'No Fishing Allowed.' Grist arrived in Yakima in 1893, just a day ahead of Cox's army. The men of the town, Grist among them, marched down to the depot, carrying baseball bats but Cox's followers were not unruly and the bets were not used."
