Abstract

"The first fruit shipped out of the valley was peaches grown by Prof. Miller on his place in the Fruitvale district. His place was in a spot where frost seldom struck so good crops were produced. The Tacoma hotel of Tacoma contracted for these peaches and whether Miller made the contract direct or through R. S. Morgan, Pioneer shipper, Millroy was not sure. But Miller made money and farmers observing this began to plant peaches on a large scale."
