Abstract
"A party of gentlemen returned on Monday from Thompson's river, having driven up there this summer a band of 200 head of beef cattle. They report they received $70 per head for them for the Cariboo butchers, who are in the habit of coming down to that point for their supplies. Ten cents per pound was the ruling price for beef on the hoof. There were as many as 2,000 head of cattle awaiting a market at Thompson's river."
