Abstract

"Upon entering the grounds the grounds once occupied by the flourishing mission of Dr. Whitman, the mind is deeply impressed with the meancholly stillness that prevails in this upper valley of the Walla Walla. Nowhere is heard the voice of the savage, nor are their cattle or horses to be seen, as they are not allowed to graze upon this portion of their immense territory."
