Abstract
"The crops are not so good as last year partly because of severe drough no rain having fallen from March until August and partly in consequence of the ravages of grasshoppers. These insects appear to be identical with the locusts of Egypt and return in countless myriads at intervals of several years. When they come they destroy the vegetation of large distribution with a suddenness and completeness quite incredible to those who have not witnessed it."
