Abstract
"Archer County was named from Branch T. Archer, a hero of the Texas Revolution. James J. Archer is not listed in the Handbook of Texas and it is entirely possible that he was not from Texas. Here are some leads that may prove helpful: John Bell Hood ADVANCE AND RETREAT, 1880, J. B. Polley HOOD'S TEXAS BRIGADE, 1910, George T. Todd, SKETCH OF HISTORY, FIRST TEXAS REGIMENT, 1909."
