Abstract
"We cannot make the time to make a thorough search for materials relating to General James J. Archer, since you are only in the beginning stage of your investigation. We are almost swamped with inquiries from all over the country. Yes, the James J. Archer of the Archer Collection here is the same as General Archer of the Confederate army. We do not find any photographs or other pictures of him or his family."
