"About Drummers and Dreamers, I suppose Caxton does seem the most logical publisher and I hope they will see their way clear to taking it. If they do not, however, and you will let me know, I'll suggest that Howard Cady of Doubleday -- their West Coast editor -- call on you next time he is up that way and discuss the possibility of eastern publication. At the same time you could talk to him about the project of really going into the effect of the Civil War upon the Far West."
