"Seeing your X mark in Ingars book reminds me of a story I love to tell - My father was a remarkable man- 73 years old when I was born in 1910- He used to loan money to the Indians to buy hay to feed their cattle when hay harvest was short- He also loaned money to the white men- When My father went to the happy hunting ground in 1927 I went through his ledger- Every Indian had paid him back- not one of the suyapos had paid him nor did they ever pay his widow."
